What's So Special About New Village Braid?

Collapsible row

It's HypoAllergenic

Our hair is made from safer man-made materials that are free from common skin irritants found in other braiding hair. Comfortable

It's PVC-free

Our hair contains no PVC which is a known human carcinogen whose building blocks and bi-products like chloride, dioxin and phthalates include potentially harmful endocrine disruptors. Safe

It's AntiMicrobial

Our hair is made of materials that are hydrophobic; this means the hair repels water and has a low moisture absorption rate. Less moisture results in fewer microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Additionally, our hair’s anti-microbial properties mean less irritation, less mustiness and less itching. Fresh & Clean

It's EcoConscious

Our hair is better for the environment because it has fewer harmful additives than PVC-based hair, posing less risk of toxic contamination when disposed of. Our hair can be recovered and recycled into new products through our Recycle Your Hair program, reducing waste and conserving resources more effectively. EcoConscious

It's Accessible

As we constantly seek to improve offerings for our customers, we strive to maintain pricing that is affordable to more people, enabling increased access to our offerings. Affordable

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you call your hair "eco"?

We call our hair eco-braiding hair because it’s designed to be safer for your scalp and more thoughtful about our impact — without sacrificing affordability.

Our hair is hypoallergenic, PVC-free, and third-party tested for priority contaminants. For us, “eco” means making better, more responsible choices and committing to continuous improvement.

This is where better braiding begins. 💚

Is New Village Braid hair non-toxic?

Yes. Our hair is third-party tested for heavy metals and VOCs using accredited lab methods. Results show non-detects for several high-concern chemicals including PVC, benzene, inorganic arsenic, cadmium, and lead.

“Non-toxic,” refers to our risk-based approach to safety, not the absence of all chemicals. All natural and synthetic materials are made of chemicals, and trace detection alone doesn’t mean a product is unsafe. That’s why we rely on third-party testing, conservative benchmarks, and transparency when evaluating and communicating product safety.

✨We focus on risk-based safety, not absolute or misleading “chemical-free” claims.

Check out our Product Safety page to learn more.

Why don’t you say “chemical-free”?

Because it wouldn’t be accurate.
All materials — natural or synthetic — are made of chemicals.

Instead, we focus on:
✔ Screening for high-concern substances
✔ Reducing unnecessary additives
✔ Clear, honest communication about what testing shows

Can I dip the pre-stretched hair in hot water to seal and relax my braided ends?

Yes. Our hair eco braiding pre-stretched hair is perfect for styles requiring sealed finishing with hot water. A 30 to 45 second dip in clean boiled water should be enough.

🔔Be sure not to dip your natural hair, and practice extra care when handling boiling hot water!

Does New Village Braid hair release harmful fumes when braided or dipped in hot water?

Our products were screened for a range of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using accredited lab methods designed to reflect real-world handling and styling conditions.

Testing showed non-detects for several high-concern compounds and low or trace levels of certain VOCs. Trace detection alone does not indicate a health risk, and results are consistent with a low-risk profile when used as intended.

As with many materials, proper ventilation during styling is recommended.
